Nudity doesn't shock us anymore

But what's next? What does she, or any of these women, do for an encore? Where does a jaded culture go from here for kicks? The envelope has already been pushed beyond what we once thought were the limits. What is left?

Nudity doesn't shock us anymore, CNN

The world that my daughter has to grow up in is becoming increasingly scary, with no regard for modesty and humility, and no sense of shame. And I have to raise her here, keep her safe here. Fathers, don’t surrender.

Don’t Stress About Smartwatch Battery Life

[T]he earliest watches lacked a minute hand because of the need to pack so much technology in to power them and also to drive the “display.” This wasn’t a problem since the accuracy was so poor they drifted off accurate timekeeping by up to hours every day! Their tiny springs and inefficient clockwork also meant they didn’t store much power. Thus they needed winding very regularly—at first with a key, just like traditional grandfather clocks and whatnot, which is self-evidently inconvenient.

Don’t Stress About Smartwatch Battery Life—It’s A 500 Year Old Problem, Kit Eaton

Great article about the history of watches and battery life, going back 500 years. It’s interesting to me that Apple is very much positioning their Apple Watch as a watch and not just a wearable.

Value and Dignity for all Persons

“Honoring the victims and survivors begins with our renewed recognition of the value and dignity of each person.”

Barack Obama

And just like Adolf Hitler, we must be careful of our application of words like “person,” “value,” and “dignity.” If a mother-to-be chooses that she doesn’t want a child— or worse, that child might might have a debilitating issue like Down Syndrome—, the baby inside her is not a person, and she should face no bigotry for wanting to remove the clump of cells— which are of little value to her— from inside her body.

Words are dangerous and their meaning should be controlled so as to not confuse. If we allow these clumps of cells to be deemed people, America is guilty of atrocity outweighing that of Nazi Germany. Which we’re not. Because personhood is determined by persons other than the person that it is determined for. And they aren’t people.

We must make a new browser. A browser for ourselves and a browser for our friends. A browser that is fast, but also a browser that is rich in functionality, highly flexible and puts the user first. A browser that is made for you.

The former CEO of Opera has a new browser. Worth checking out, though it is very green still.

An Open Letter

If I can glean anything from these open letters, it’s this–maybe people (my people, Millennials) are leaving the Church because we are spoiled, selfish, uneasily satisfied, hypercritical, consumeristic and socially enlightened but biblically light-weight.

An Open Letter to All the People Writing (And Sharing) Open Letters About What’s Wrong with The Church

So many good points in this article. As a Millennial, I love hearing humbling things from other Millennials. That we are often biblically light-weight is a major problem today. Without solid apologetics or even a historical understanding of arguments against — or for — our faith, many fail to fight against the evil that is gripping our country today.

9 Things You Should Know About Auschwitz and Nazi Extermination Camps

The most commonly cited figure for the total number of Jews killed is six million — around 78 percent of the 7.3 million Jews in occupied Europe at the time. Additionally, the Nazis murdered approximately two to three million Soviet POWs, two million ethnic Poles, up to 1,500,000 Romani, 200,000 handicapped, political and religious dissenters, 15,000 homosexuals, and 5,000 Jehovah's Witnesses, bringing the total genocide toll to around 11 million.

9 Things You Should Know About Auschwitz and Nazi Extermination Camps by Joe Carter

The atrocities that were committed by the Nazis are often too extreme to grasp. It’s because of evil men like Hitler that I believe America should intervene from time to time in other countries’ affairs.

I jokingly said to my coworker this morning that everyone in the world sent this to me this weekend, though it was more like a dozen or so. I’m an archer and this is awesome. Mildly dorky, but the guy is definitely talented.

The New Finley.im

In late 2013, my wife and myself launched Finley Home to give us a place to share our adventures, our thoughts, and — come Spring of last yearpregnancy and parenthood things. This came after I took a few years away from blogging. Finley Home allowed me to find my voice again, to get back into the swing of blogging.

As I’ve gotten back into that swing, many of the things I would have loved to write haven’t fit the more family-friendly mold of that site. Between politics, culture, and technology, I have struggled to find a place to voice my thoughts.

So in 2015, I’m launching a new blog for myself. It’s a work in progress. Not sure what all will be posted here. Likely a mix of the above: politics, culture, and technology. So welcome. Subscribe to the RSS and follow me on Twitter.

Design Studios Are Not Going Away

Much hoopla has been made lately about design services disappearing. Studios seem to be getting swallowed up by larger corporations to help aid their in-house design teams. This has led many folks to believe the design service industry as a whole is dying.

Well, it’s not.
